December 2011

So December is here and the weather, while distinctly autumnal, shows no signs of turning wintry. We still await the first frost here in Hope Cove and snow remains something you see on the news.

  • If you are taking a pre-Christmas break here, there are plenty of things you can do. On 10th December, Kingsbridge holds its "Kingsbridge Celebrates Christmas" day with stalls, carol singers and, of course, Father Christmas. Check it out at Kingsbridge Info.
  • For a memorable traditional evening, why not drive out to Buckfast Abbey on 16th December where the Stanborough Chorus promise a Service in Celebration of Christmas at Buckfast Abbey, begins 7.30pm.
  • And if you want venture into Plymouth to do some shopping, there are many things going on in the city including ice skating and the Winter Festival. Check out Visit Plymouth.

November 2011

So, the clocks have gone back and winter’s just around the corner but, on a positive note, that means we are starting to light the wood fire in the lounge. Going by the rush to grab the surrounding seats after dinner, we know a traditional open fire is enjoyed by many.

Although it’s a relatively quiet part of the year, it’s also the time for many groups and companies to have their Christmas lunches and dinners. You are always welcome to drop in for lunch but, if you are travelling a long distance, it may be wise to ring ahead first. It is not hectic everyday: however we don't want you to make a special journey to us and be disappointed because we are fully booked, so please do give us a quick call and enquire about availability.

Speaking of popping in for lunch, it you have a Devon address, there are some special offers available in accommodation, meals and cream teas. Just call or email us to find out more.

If you are interested in a (gentle) activity holiday, we have another  Painting and Mosaic course coming up in December (9th to 11th). Also, there are still a few places available for Christmas and New Year if you fancy getting away from the kitchen this year, call us.

Painting and Mosaic Weekend

Advance notice of another Painting and Mosaic Weekend coming up on Friday 21st October to Sunday 23rd October. A bit further on, there is another course from Friday 9th December until Sunday 11th December. Places are still available for both breaks.

October 2011

Well, October is here and it's bringing some very un-Autumnal weather with it. The harbour is bathed in sunshine and our guests are enjoying cold drinks on the terrace. At this time of the year, the village is much quieter and it's a very tranquil way to spend a day.
Autumn is a great time to visit the area. The children are back to school, and the roads and towns are quieter while the weather - even without the Indian summer - is pleasant enough for long walks and shopping.
