WALKER  AT  HOPE'S  COTTAGE  HOTEL

It's been a grey day, cloudy day,

with hints of dripping, greasy rain,

but now the early evening's here,

white streaks of clouds on pale, pale blue,

and pale far green on cliff-top heights

have caught, now hold, a tender sun,

shade making sun along the coast

of rising land edge, sea's black wall

that's crowned with distant whitened gems

of Bigbury, its nestling homes,

Burgh Island standing sentinel

to watch the tides invade the sand.

A thought invades the mind, now seen

the coastline's length and rocky strength,

how figures two had recent walked

its windswept head, its rise and fall,

with weary feet and bodies tired,

two tiny forms now snug at Hope, 

to watch the restless evening sea

through hotel window, sipping tea.

Friends of The Redfern Centre, Salcombe:-

The Cottage Hotel hosted a Cream Tea fund raising event for The Redfern Health Centre, Salcombe on Thursday 31st July 2014.  Organisers managed to raise approximately £690.00 which will enable them to purchase further equipment for the health centre for the benefit of all patients.

'Fishermen's Reading Room', Hope Cove:-

The lobster storyboards are now installed the Fishermen's Reading Room had their "official launch" on Monday 4th August 2014.  Committee members hope to establish the historic property as a local museum.

Crab Pot Making at The Cottage Hotel:-

Hope Cove resident Sue Morgan, wife of local fisherman Dave Morgan is retiring from her teaching position and planning future crab pot making workshops in the Cove Room, at The Cottage Hotel.  No more details as yet, but if you're interested, please contact Sue for more information on 01548 560237.

Redfern Health Centre, Salcombe - Cream Teas......

South West Coastal Path (Thurlestone section) - RE-OPENED!

Devon County Council yesterday completed work to re-open a section of Coast Path south of Thurlestone which had been closed since early 2013 when it was severed by a cliff fall. The new route follows the edge of the field, and whilst slightly longer than the original route retains stunning views along the coast.

Also, The Cottage Hotel is supporting "Great South West Walks" (20th-28th September 2014).  The South West Coast Path Assocation are planning themed circular walks along the coast, led by local experts. 

On Sunday 28th September 2014 is the Hope Cove walk (4.8 miles).  Our guests are invited to join in.  The target is to raise £250,000 with matched funding for path improvement projects alon gthe path.

The Cottage Hotel will be providing refreshments both before and after the walk.  You will need to register with the South West Coast Path Association to take part in these walks.

"Snowy, the Wild White Rabbit" Update......

We thought we would post an update about our resident wild white rabbit, affectionately known as ‘Snowy’, as so many of our guests are enquiring after him.  As you can see from the photograph, he's just as cute as ever, if not a little frayed around the edges!

Valerie Belsey your guide, has guided walks locally and throughout the country, for over 30 years. She has written books on green lanes and appeared on the BBC's Countryfile programme. She enjoys exploring and sharing with others the rural character of the area where she lives.

• Bring suitable clothing for our climate, and walking boots

• All walks undertaken at walker's own risk

Provisional Itinerary

Monday 21st July: Enjoy a welcoming drink before dinner, where you will meet your guide, Valerie and your fellow walkers.
Tuesday 22nd July: After breakfast, walking towards Bolt Head and inland to view some earlier settlements.
Wednesday 23rd July: Your group will be heading out towards Inner Hope then up to a former World War II runway.
Thursday 24th July: A walking tour Valerie, the route and destination to be decided by the group.
Friday 25th July: Departure after breakfast (or if you would like to explore more of the area, please enquire at Reception for room availability).

Modbury Fair Week - 3rd-11th May 2014:-

With a great deal of fun activities, shows, parades and street stalls, you will be spoilt for choice. Easter Breaks......

The South West of England is warming up with Spring sunshine and this week we’re pleased to report that Hope Cove has been clear of the smog and has had little effect from the Sahara desert sand clouds.
